Delete your DinnerDiary account
Last updated October 3, 2026
You can delete your DinnerDiary account yourself at any time, from the website or either app. Deletion is permanent and takes effect straight away.
Before you delete: cancel store subscriptions
Deleting your account cancels a DinnerDiary Plus subscription bought on the website (billed by Polar). It does not cancel one bought in the iPhone or Android app, and the store will keep charging you. Cancel it first:
- App Store: apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions, or Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your iPhone.
- Google Play: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions, or Play Store › your profile › Payments & subscriptions.
How to delete your account
On the website
- Sign in and open Settings › Account.
- In Danger zone, choose Delete account…, type DELETE and confirm.
In the iPhone app
- Open your profile, then Settings.
- Scroll to Delete account and confirm.
In the Android app
- Open your profile, then Settings.
- In Danger zone, tap Delete account and confirm.
For your security you may be asked to sign in again if you last signed in more than a few minutes ago.
Can’t sign in?
If you’ve lost access to your sign-in method (for example a hidden Apple email address), email privacy@dinnerdiary.app from the address on the account, or tell us your username and any other address you may have used. We’ll confirm the account is yours and delete it within 30 days.
What is deleted
- Your account: email, name, username, password, profile (bio, home city, avatar, social handles), sign-in connections and sessions.
- Your lists, saved places, ratings, notes, visits, tags, favorites and rankings.
- Photos and avatars you uploaded, removed from our storage too.
- Your comments, community ratings, friendships, follows, blocks, invitations and the reports you sent.
- Notification tokens for your devices and browsers.
- Your web (Polar) subscription is cancelled and your customer record at Polar deleted.
What is kept, and for how long
- Places you added to other people’s lists stay on those lists for their owners, without your name (shown as “Former member”). Your own ratings and notes on them are deleted.
- Backups: copies of deleted data remain in our database backups until those expire on their rolling schedule, within weeks. Backups are only used to recover from failures.
- Billing records held by Polar, Apple or Google are kept by them as tax and accounting law requires, under their own privacy policies.
- Reports about content you posted may be kept while needed to handle them and prevent repeat abuse.
You can download a copy of your data before deleting, from Settings › Account › Data export on the website. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
